Santa Pola is about 14 kilometres from Alicante airport, a 15 to 20 minute drive. It is one of the closest resorts on the Costa Blanca.

The town has a working fishing port, long beaches such as Gran Playa and Playa Lisa, and the Salinas Natural Park, where flamingos are easy to spot. Boats to Tabarca island leave from the harbour. Gran Alacant, on the cape above the town, is even closer to the airport.
